Police say a 6-year-old who was shot at a home in Pittsburgh’s Knoxville neighborhood on Sunday has died.

Isis Allen was shot in the head while on the porch of a home on Zara Street around 11 p.m.  Officers say she was hit by one bullet.

Allen was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, surrounded by her parents and extended family.

“Her heart is slowly but surely leaving,” said Taqua Sykes, the child’s mother.

According to WPXI, the family wanted to keep Isis on life support as long as possible.  They also thanked the community for their support the effort .

“I have to thank the community, because the community is what actually brought this man to justice as fast as it did. [Police] got him within 24 hours of this happening,” Sykes said.

Kamau Thomas, Jr, 19, was arrested Monday in connection to the shooting. He was charged with attempted homicide, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault

Police say charges against Thomas will be amended, reports WPXI.

“Savage. There’s no forgiving him. I’m not into forgiveness. He took my baby,” said Sykes. She said she wants Thomas prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Thomas reportedly did not realize he had shot the girl until he saw it on Facebook. He told police he was aiming at the roof to scare another man who had threatened him earlier, reports WPXI.

He also told police that the gun’s “trigger was sensitive, (and) it started going crazy. The gun kept going off until it was empty”.

A vigil was held Monday night, neighbors were reportedly frustrated by the senseless violence and prayed for Isis.  Isis’ father left the hospital for a brief time to attend the vigil.

A second vigil attended by about two dozen people, was held Wednesday night following Isis’ death.
