A man arrested after he allegedly attempted to flush an infant down a toilet during a standoff in Mt. Washington is facing additional charges.
Dennis Gateley, 31, is facing attempted homicide charges in addition to a aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and firearms violations.
Police said they were called to the 100 block of Southern Avenue where a man and woman were arguing.
Gateley reportedly attempted to flush the 6-week-old infant down a toilet.
A woman in the home was able to evacuate the home along with the infant. They were taken Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC so that the infant could be evaluated.
Gateley refused to come out of the house for about two hours, but eventually surrendered to police around 2:30 a.m.
The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as a precaution.
