An Amish man in Lancaster County has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty for allegedly beating a horse to the point it collapsed and had to be euthanized.
The Ephrata Police Department started an investigation after a Facebook post, which has been shared more than 37,000 times, went viral and claims the Amish man “beat a horse to the point it collapsed.”
According to a news release from police, Marvin Sensenig, 20, “unreasonably struck a horse that was overburdened with a heavy load.”
KDKA reports that a local fire company was called to help police use 1,000 gallons of water in an attempt to cool the horse down, but it didn’t help.
The Facebook post accuses Sensening of kicking and hitting the horse.
