Dispute between mother and son leads to large police response

A large police response in a Latrobe neighborhood and a lockdown at a vocational school was caused by a domestic dispute between an 18-year-old and his mother.

WTAE reports the incident began near Jodi Avenue and Edward Street where the teenager had gotten into an argument with his mother, and when the mother called 911, then the son left the home.  The search started after the mother told police she heard a gun shot.

Police canvassed the neighborhood and searching in a wooded area.  A Pennsylvania State Police helicopter was used during the search.  The East Westmoreland Career and Technology Center as a staging area during the incident.

The school was placed on lockdown for part of the afternoon while the search took place.

Officers were on a loudspeaker directing the young man to come out into the open with his hands up and to obey any orders from officers on the ground.

A young man was taken into custody by state police.  Police have not confirmed his identity or if he will face charges.
