Fire damages apartment building in Fayette County, firefighters injured

At least a dozen people were left homeless and several firefighters were injured after a fire at an apartment building in  Redstone Township, Fayette County, Thursday.

The fire broke out at the building on Main Street and flames spread from the first floor to the fourth floor.

WPXI reports that six firefighters were hurt, three were taken to the hospital.  Two of the firefighters who were hospitalized were suffering from heat exhaustion and the third from smoke inhalation, officials said.

12 to 14 people were displaced by the fire, which also resulted in smoke and water damage to a neighboring building that houses the Redstone Township Sewer Authority and the tax collector’s office, reports WPXI.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
