Former Allegheny County Commissioner Jim Flaherty passes away

Jim Flaherty, a Former Allegheny County Commissioner and Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Judge, passed away Thursday afternoon at age 85.

Flaherty died peacefully with his wife Katie and all five children at his side.

He graduated cum laude from Washington & Jefferson College in 1953.  Flaherty attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, receiving an LL.B in 1959.

Flaherty worked as a trial lawyer and partner for a litigation firm after he completed his formal education.  He founded his own firm in 1969, practicing municipal, school and public employee labor law.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
