Graduation death ruled accidental overdose

Westmoreland County coroner classifies the death of a 17-year-old Burrell High School student found dead on her graduation day an accidental overdose, reports WTAE. The accidental overdose is stemmed from a combination of prescription drugs.

Elizabeth Hoover’s autopsy showed she had no signs of heroin or any illegal drugs in her system at the time of her death.

Hoover’s body was found in a car parked against a tree in a neighboring township at 1 a.m. on May 26. Police initially thought Hoover had been injured and then killed after wrecking her car. This was disproved when Hoover sustained no physical injuries. A toxicology report was then immediately requested.

Allegheny Township police tell WTAE they are investigating the source of the drugs and say that person could still be charged.
