Retired Pittsburgh Steeler Hines Ward and wife Lindsey give back during the holiday season to residents of the Salvation Army’s Family Caring Center.
Families arrived at Ward’s restaurant, Table 86, where they were treated to dinner and a Christmas Party to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.
“I understand the trying time, the hardships that a lot of families face during the holidays,” said Hines Ward.
Donna Fencik, the divisional director of marketing and public relations, said Ward has been working with the organization since his early days on the field. She added that he and his wife have taken part in the center’s Christmas party for several years.
“He intends to continue to come back every year and do this Christmas party because he truly enjoys it,” said Fenick. “He enjoys seeing the smiles on people’s faces and Pittsburgh is very near and dear to him, so he wants to continue to give back as long as he can.”
Hines and Lindsey continue to give back to Pittsburgh, calling the city a home away from home.
“Pittsburgh has given me so many great years, this is the least I can do to repay them back,” said Ward. “Anytime I get to come back and bring some smiles on some Pittsburghers that’s what its all about.”
The Wards were accompanied by a Steelers themed Santa and Mrs. Claus to hand out gifts to all the families and children.
To wrap up the evening, families were surprised with new televisions and sets of pots and pans before they returned to the center.
Ward continues to give back with a special “Online Red Salvation Army Kettle” to raise funds for families in need. People can donate at this link to give a credit card donation of any amount of your choice or text “HINES” to 41444 for a link to Hines’ online kettle.
