A Homewood man was arrested after he allegedly fired two shots and pointed a gun at a police officer Friday morning.
Police say a gunshot was reported in the 7400 block of Monticello Street at around 3:30 a.m. While checking the area, another gunshot was reported in the 7300 block of Race Street.
Officers received reports that a black male who was wearing a white t-shirt pointed a gun it at a civilian. An officer saw a man matching the description lying face-down in the middle of Idlewild Street between Collier and Sterrett streets.
According to a press release, an officer believed the man could have been shot and attempted to aid the victim. The man, identified as 22-year-old William Taylor, jumped to his feet and pointed a gun directly at the officer but did not shoot, police say.
Taylor apparently fled on foot as other officers arrived on scene. They started to chase Taylor after he was spotted in the 7300 block of Frankstown Avenue.
Taylor was taken into custody and charged firearms not to be carried without a license, persons not to possess a firearm, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, and discharging firearm. He also had an outstanding warrant out of Westmoreland County.
