Ivan Nova leads Pirates to win over Reds

Jung Ho Kang stays hot and Ivan Nova threw a gem, leading the Pirates to a 4-1 win over the Reds last night.

Ivan Nova pitched a complete game and Kang drove in two runs as Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati.

Nova allowed only 1 run on 6 hits in 9 complete innings. The win, his 12th overall on the year, keeps Nova unbeaten since joining the Pirates. Pittsburgh acquired Nova from the New York Yankees on August 1.

Even though a 1 for 4 night had his average drop to .250 on the season, Andrew McCutchen sent Josh Harrison home with a single in the 6th.

The win marked the 500th for Clint Hurdle as Pirates manager. Hurdle is now among only five other men with 500 or more victories as manager in Pirates franchise history.

Pittsburgh holds a 69-69 record and is four games back of the Cardinals for the final National League Wild Card.

The second game of this four game series against the Reds is tonight from PNC Park at 7:05 p.m. Steven Brault (0-2, 3.32 ERA) starts for Pittsburgh while Tim Adleman (2-3, 4.02 ERA) will be on the mound for Cincinnati.
