K-9 honored by the American Kennel Club

The American Kennel Club is honoring a Pittsburgh-area police dog that was stabbed to death in January.

The club announced Aren, a German Shepherd, is among the second round of winners of the “AKC Paw of Courage” medal.


Aren had four years on the Port Authority of Allegheny County.  He  was stabbed to death in Wilkinsburg when he reached suspects in a foot pursuit before officers.

The first round of medals was awarded in May.
