Man allegedly steals $3,000 worth of pennies from employer

Police in Taylor, PA (just outside of Scranton) have charged a Scott Township man with stealing $3,000 worth of pennies from his employer, reports the Scranton Times-Tribune.

Robert E. Napolitan, 34, allegedly stole a steel drum with $3,000 in pennies that was located at the Pyne Freight Lines Inc. on Union Street. This steel drum weighed approximately 1,600 pounds.

In order to take the heavy steel drum of pennies, police say Napolitan used a hand truck.

Napolitan had a key to the back door of the company and even informed the dispatcher he would be there late the night the money was stolen.

Through the investigation, police saw security camera footage that captured his white Jeep Cherokee pulling in at 2:30 a.m.

When police searched his Jeep, they discovered 89 pennies under the seats and floor mats.

Along with burglary, Napolitan is being charged with criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property. These charges are all felonies.
