Man sentenced in pregnant Duquesne teen shooting

A man was sentenced to at least 22-and-a-half years in prison after he was found guilty of shooting a pregnant teen in 2014, killing her unborn baby.

Prosecutors say Eric Taylor, who was 15-years-old at the time, shot DaRae Delgado, who was also 15-years-old, in the stomach.  Delgado survived, but her unborn son, Darren, was killed.  He was expected to be born the following month.

Prosecutors said Delgado and her mother moved out-of-state following Taylor’s conviction for fear of their safety.

Delgado’s mother, Deanna Weems, wrote a letter that prosecutors read Wednesday in court, reports WPXI.

“DaRae will never get over the fact that her son was murdered before he got to take his first breath,” the letter read.

According to WPXI, Taylor’s attorney Chris Conrad said his client didn’t say anything in court because he still said he is innocent.

“My client – he can’t show the remorse because he’s not the one who did the shooting. He still steadfast to that,” Conrad said.

Taylor was sentenced to no less than 22-and-a-half years and up to 45 years in prison for homicide and attempted homicide.
