Mother charged for daughter's decayed teeth

A Greensburg woman is being charged with neglect for failing to provide dental care for her young daughter. WPXI reports the woman’s daughter had 10 decayed teeth.

This woman has been identified as Chris Ann McChesney. Her 9-year-old daughter has Down syndrome.

McChesney’s daughter complained of tooth pain in school in 2014. The school then promptly notified her mother at the time.

Greensburg police said they again informed McChesney when her daughter came to school at the start of the 2015-16 year with several decayed teeth. McChesney promised to get treatment and actually came close to following through.

Two procedures to have the decayed teeth removed were canceled by an anesthesiologist. The Doctor suggested the procedure be performed in a hospital rather than at a dentist’s office due to the girl’s Down syndrome diagnosis.

McChesney attempted to rationalize things by saying she “felt that the teeth were not bothering (her daughter) and did not feel the need to rush treatment,” according to the paperwork obtained by TribLIVE.
