Pirates snap losing streak with win on Clemente Day

Jung Ho Kang’s home run helps end the Pirates losing streak.

Kang hit a solo home run, his 17th of the season, to lead off the 8th inning and give Pittsburgh a 4-3 win in final game of this 3 game series against the Cardinals.

The legacy of Pirates legend Roberto Clemente was honored throughout the game.

Trevor Williams earned the win for the Pirates with 3 relief innings. This was the first win Major League Baseball win for Williams.

Despite 3 solid relief innings, Kang’s home run handed Alex Reyes the loss.

Pittsburgh finishes the series losing 2 out of 3 and 1 game under .500 at 68-69 on the year.

Most importantly for the Pirates, avoiding the sweep moves Pittsburgh to 4.5 games behind St. Louis for the last National League Wild Card spot.

The Cincinnati Reds will be at PNC Park for a 4 game series starting tonight. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

Ivan Nova (11-6) starts for Pittsburgh and Dan Straily (11-7) takes the mound for the Reds.
