PNC Bank is upgrading thousands of ATM machines. The upgraded PNC ATM’s will be able to read chip cards.
Another feature of the new and improved PNC ATM’s is an option to receive an emailed receipt instead of just printed ones, enhanced screens with new buttons, as well as, personalized options to speed up transactions.
9,000 PNC machines are expected to include these upgrades by the middle of September.
Head of PNC’s ATM network Ken Justice said the reason for the changes is because fraud liability for MasterCard and Visa will shift to ATM owners beginning in October.
“Many ATMs owned by third parties commonly seen in venues such as bowling alleys and bars may go away because of the cost of upgrading,” Justice said in a news release.
