Several injured after boat fire in Pittsburgh

Six people were injured after the boat they were on caught on fire beneath the Fort Duquesne Bridge in Pittsburgh.

WPXI reports 5 adults and an 18-month-old child were on the boat.  Five of the victims were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment of first and second degree burns.  The victims are expected to be okay.

One of the victims, Angela Baker, a member of the Pittsburgh Passion football team, reportedly suffered third-degree burns.  According to the football team’s website, Baker is a wide receiver for the team.

People kayaking on the river told WPXI they tried to have the victims hold onto their kayaks after they jumped from the burning boat.

WPXI reports River rescue was first on scene and battled the flames with the fire department.

The boat reportedly caught fire for a second time when it was towed to shore.
