South Park man turns himself in for deadly Bethel Park crash

A South Park man turned himself in to police in connection with a fatal Bethel Park crash in May that killed one teen.

The Allegheny County medical examiner confirmed Shane Phillips, 16, was killed in the accident on Stoltz Road on May 15, reports WTAE.

Christopher Beck, 18, turned himself in just after Wednesday after an arrest warrant was issued.

According to WTAE, police said Beck was driving the vehicle with Phillips and another teen inside when he went off the road, hitting two trees and a fire hydrant.

At the time of the accident, officers said they smelled alcohol on Beck’s breath.  He admitted he had five beers before the crash.

Beck failed three field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. His blood alcohol level was .102.

The other passenger in the car to police that Beck was driving at a high-rate of speed, calling out his speed up to 90 miles per an hour.

Philips died of his injuries shortly after being taken to St. Clair Hospital.  Beck and the other teen were not seriously injured.

Beck will face 16 charges, including homicide by vehicle and DUI.

He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on $150,000 bond.
