SWAT stand-off with man on roof in Brookline arrested and charged

SWAT teams and police surrounded a residence in Pittsburgh’s Brookline neighborhood.

The incident occurred on Monday in the 1000 block of Chelton Avenue.

According to police, authorities responded to the residence due to reports of a domestic dispute around 4 p.m.

The female involved in the incident was able to escape the scene safely.

The male involved, 30 year-old,Shawn Redman, refused to exit the residence.

Police determined that Redman had 2 warrants out for his arrest, one from the county, and one from the city, and called the SWAT team.

SWAT was called to the scene and began arriving shortly after 5 p.m, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

A Pennsylvania State helicopter was able to tell police that Redman was on the roof of the home. It was unknown whether or not he was armed, and SWAT was not getting a verbal or physical response from the suspect.

Firefighters and Tactical EMTs initiated a rope rescue to get the suspect off of the roof. Redman was able to walk down the ladder safely.

At 7:37 p.m., police arrested the suspect, and transported to UPMC Mercy due to belief that he was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

It has not been determined if he will face any additional charges.
