Teen injured in shooting near Perry High School, 4 detained

Pittsburgh Police say a 17-year-old was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being shot near Perry High School. Shots were fired shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday at Baytree Street and Perrysville Avenue in Perry North.

The teen walked into the school with a gunshot wound to the hip and was treated by the school nurse until paramedics arrived.

Three male minors fled the scene on foot but have been taken into custody. A fourth was found near a set of steps.

A firearm was located nearby, but it is unclear if it was the same one used in the shooting.

Perry High School was placed on lockdown but it is now lifted.

KDKA reports that no one has been charged at this time.

School officials changed the time for Friday’s football game between Perry and Westinghouse from an evening game to an afternoon game as a safety measure.  No fans will be allowed in the stadium.
