Telephone pole strikes a man on Rt. 8

A car hit a telephone pole and then slammed into a guide rail on Rt. 8 in Shaler Township, report WPXI.

This incident occurred at 3:20 a.m. on Friday morning.

After the driver got out of the his car, a Tastycake delivery truck swerved to avoid him standing in the middle of the road and one of the truck’s mirrors caught a dangling telephone wire, bringing the pole down onto the man who was standing in the road.

The man struck by the pole was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. His condition is not currently known.

Route 8 between Pennview Street and Butler Plank Road reopened at about 7 a.m.
